Mike Essen is a nationally recognized conservative talk show host, commentator, and political activist known throughout South Florida as “South Florida’s Conservative Voice.” During more than 25 years in broadcasting, he has interviewed prominent public figures including Marco Rubio, Oliver North, Alveda King, and Ted Nugent, and has reported from major political events such as CPAC. Mike is also a featured guest on the We the People Show podcast and now joins the We the People blog as a regular contributor, sharing his perspective on issues involving faith, constitutional government, free speech, and American values.

In this guest commentary, Mike writes from his unique perspective as a Jewish conservative to explain why he believes strong relationships between Christians and Jews are essential to preserving religious liberty, supporting Israel, and defending Western values. While some of the views expressed are subject to debate, Mike argues that Evangelical Christians have been among the Jewish community’s strongest allies and encourages greater cooperation between the two faith communities in confronting antisemitism, protecting religious freedom, and supporting the State of Israel.
My name is Mike Essen, and I’m a Conservative Talk Show host from South Florida, known as South Florida’s Conservative Voice. Past guests of mine include Marco Rubio, Oliver North, Alveda King and Ted Nugent, and I covered CPAC 2022. Allow me to talk to you about Why A Christian America is Better for Jews like myself.
The Evangelical Christians are the best friends to the Jewish people worldwide. John Hagee, Chairman of Christians United for Israel, has dedicated his life to defending Israel and fighting Antisemitism, as has Tony Perkins, Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz etc. It’s a left-wing lie that Christians only support Israel because of End Times scriptures. 80% of Christians in Israel are Christian Zionists who have the same concerns about Israel as do the Jews.
Catholics and Protestants hid the Jews during the Holocaust. As a Jew, I owe the Christian community because I wouldn’t be here without them.
There are many misconceptions about the Evangelicals from both the Christian and Jewish communities. The left-wing group known as the ADL, which is the Anti-Defamation League, considers Evangelicals to be more of a threat to Judaism than Radical Islam.
This claim strikes me as completely bizarre, and I will explain why. Christianity says, “Love your enemies” while Islam says, “Kill all Infidels”. Radical Islamists are dedicated to destroying the State of Israel while Evangelicals have saved Israel and continue to do so. Leftist Jews get very mad at me when I point out to them that, as I mentioned earlier, Catholics and Protestants saved millions of Jews during the Holocaust. Factually, it’s in the HOLOCAUST ARCHIVES. There is no valid argument against it.
The progressive Jews always point to Mel Gibson’s movie Passion of the Christ as Antisemitic. I argue that it is not. The message of the movie is that everyone killed Christ, Jews and non-Jews. Additionally, Jesus and his Apostles were Jewish, and were well portrayed in the movie. The Anti-Christian left uses the movie as a Scapegoat to hate Christians. But that is all it is.
We have now learned the facts about Evangelicals and Jews, but a profound question to consider is, What can we do to support groups or legislation that brings the Christian and Jewish communities together?
You can express your opinions on social media, join organizations like The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews or Christians United for Israel, as well as supporting them on social media by liking and following their pages. Also, call the Capital Switchboard at 212-224-3121 and express your support for Israel and Religious Liberty. The Christians and Jews have an enemy in Radical Islam, not each other!
In conclusion, Jews should be grateful, not scornful towards The Evangelicals. We both have a common enemy, and that’s radical Islam. Islam teaches and promotes suppression and oppression of women, gays and especially Jews. We, as Jews, need to acknowledge that many Christians saved us during the Holocaust and helped prevent another one. Everyone must understand who the real enemy is.
