As a voter, I highly recommend that everyone looks up how their congressmembers perform. They are elected, and they take an oath on the U.S. Constitution to defend it and to protect our rights based on it. This is the reason it is critical for everyone… and it’s our God-given right and duty… to stay on top of things like this.
Elected officials are not above us. They are elected by us the people. That means they work for us. It’s not the other way around and they are not entitled to special treatment like kings and queens.
The Founding Fathers, and in particular President George Washington, rejected what they saw a high risk for tyranny and dictatorship if the United States were to have become yet another monarchy or democracy. This is the reason the United States is a constitutional republic. Not a democracy. As Benjamin Franklin said, and I’m paraphrasing: we have a republic if we can keep it.
